Why the titles Guru and Doctor?

  • Guru was an informal title given to me by the successful dealers in UBS. It was a symbol of respect and appreciation.
  • Doctor Sim was a fond way of addressing me by RTM James Loh, presently with Barclays Cap.
  • From guru comes gurusim@ as my email address. simonsim@ was too common and used up.

Brief Career Profile:

  • 1977 Graduated from University of Singapore, Bukit Timah campus, with a BBA Degree
  • 1978 Shipbuilding industry as mgt trainee, marketing and then subcontractor.
  • 1979 Joined Gold Bullion industry and started learning technical analysis and doing free-lance writing.
  • 1980 Flew to Hong Kong to buy books on Technical Analysis!
  • 1981 Exposure to rubber, financial and commodities futures trading; began developing mechanical systems.
  • 1985 Joined UBS as a full time Technical Analyst; recruited by the new CEO, Mr Lim Ho Kee.
  • 1986 Exposure to global forex, interest rates, futures, and indices.
  • 1987 Applied Excel macros into proprietary trading program.
  • 1991 Promoted to Head of Technical Analysis supporting dealers, prop traders, sales, private bankers,
  • 1992 Applied VBE into proprietary trading program.
  • 1998 Learn HTML programming. Left UBS on 31st July after announcement of merger with SBC.
  • 1999 Spent two years full time to complete & beta test proprietary trading program GURUSIM.

  • 2004 May - Participated in SIAS' seminar on Technical Analysis vs Fundamental Analysis.
  • 2004 Aug - Invited by SGX to give a talk about The Joseph Cycle.
  • 2004 Aug - incorporated Simon Sim Advisory Research Pte Ltd, an exempt Financial Advisers company.
  • 2005 Apr - Published my second book "Survival Rules and Habits - A Legacy for My Children". This is a self-improvement book and "your as well as my legacy for children. Featured in 93.8's The Living Room and Mediacorp's Book Author.
